The locality
The Isle of Purbeck is arguably Dorset’s most beautiful region. Its beaches, ancient, charm-imbued villages, pine forests and timeless farmland give the peninsula the uniqueness of a true island.
Church Knowle
Church Farm sits at the edge of the small village of Church Knowle, a cluster of stone houses that runs down the lane from the ancient St. Peter’s Church, right opposite the farm. The village includes a lovely old pub, The New Inn, which specialises in locally caught seafood dishes and quality wines.
Corfe Castle
Just over a mile down the lane from the farmhouse is one of Dorset’s best known landmarks, the medieval Corfe Castle, blasted to ruins during the English Civil War of the 17th century. The castle forms the centrepiece of a very attractive village that buzzes with pubs, restaurants, shops and a museum.
Nearby places
Positioned at the heart of Purbeck, Church Farm is just a short drive to the sea in three directions. The Jurassic Coast is closest, to the south of the farm, while to the east are sandy beaches ideal for beach days and water sports. North, is the serene, deserted south shore of Poole Harbour, most easily accessed at Arne. The house sits right at the foot of the Purbeck hills, which offer walking routes and spectacular views over the sea and the rest of Dorset.
